Lisa Bettany Get Connected One of the annoying things about the iPhone is that it comes to such a small selection of ring tones. And you can buy ring tones from the iTunes store or there are number of Apps that give you a small selection of 1001 exotic party beats. But why would you want to do that when you can create your own ring tones for free. And that’s what I’m going to be talking about today. So the first thing you want to do is open your iTunes library. Go up to preferences. And make sure your import settings are set on AAC encoder and high quality if you want these ring tones to be good quality. So click “OK”. So in order to set you’re in and out point, you want to go ctrl I and that will bring up some options here and you can set your start and stop time of the song. So in this case, I’m just going to start it at the beginning and maybe stop it around 20 seconds. Okay. Now you want to right click and create an AAC version. So hit that and that’s just going to take the small part of the song that you’ve set your in and out point and create another copy. So this is kind of a tricky point. So you actually have to delete this song from your iTunes library but make sure that you keep that file. So once you’ve deleted that from your iTunes library, just go in your finder and find that file. And you want to change the extension to m4r instead of m4a. M4r is just for extension that iTunes recognizes as a ring tone. Once you’ve done that, drag that copy into your iTunes library. So now all you have to do is sink it up to your phone. You can find the ring tones under ring tones and just hit sink ring tones select the ring tone that you’ve created and then apply it to your iPhone. So once your ring tone has sink, disconnect your iPhone and go under settings, sounds, ring tone, and your ring tone should be there. Just click it and it set in you’re ready to go, really simple way to create your own customized ring tones. If you want to know more, go to getconnectedmedia.com.
